The Frieling USA Emsa Clip & Close Glass Storage Container is a square storage container with a plastic lid that has a silicone seal to make it leak proof, and tabs or clasps that enable you to close the lid and clip it into place.

Emsa say that the lids are 100% leak proof, and because of this, it allows you to store liquid sauces in it and other semi-liquid food such as casseroles and curries. The dish is made from tempered diamond glass which is safe in the microwave, fridge, freezer and dishwasher. They are also oven safe up to 450 degrees F (when placing in the oven, you must remove the lid). The tough tempered glass is also resistant to being scratched or broken, and does not absorb food smells. This container has a capacity of twenty six fluid ounces (26 fl oz).

This container allows you to prepare, cook, serve and store food all in the one container, which saves on the washing up. If you do a lot of oven cooking and baking, then this storage container is perfect for you.

Emsa is a German brand but the containers are made in Korea. It comes with a 30 year manufacturers warranty (which is a pretty unusual length).

The Pyrex Storage 1 Cup Round Dish is made of non porous tempered glass that is safe in the oven, microwave, fridge, freezer and dishwasher. Because it can go in the oven it doubles as bakeware, and the round shape is ideal if you are baking small cakes for instance. It’s tough, and won’t stain or absorb food smells. It comes with a BPA free, fitted air tight blue plastic lid.

The 1 cup capacity is small enough for children’s lunches, to store baby food in, or you could make and store individual puddings in them, ready to be cooked when you are ready. You can also use them as jelly moulds or to make small cakes as well as to store liquid foods such as soups and sauces. Because the dish is round, it is easy to handwash (no difficult corners) if you haven’t got a dishwasher.

This Pyrex dish is made in the USA and comes with a limited two year warranty.

The Anchor Hocking TrueSeal Rectangular Glass Storage Container has a capacity of 6 cups (1.5 liters) and is large enough to store substantial holiday or party food. If you are cooking in advance for Christmas, Thanksgiving or another special occasion, this container lets you freeze what you’ve cooked and reheat it when you are ready to serve it. Because the container is made from tough tempered glass, it does not stain or warp and can go safely into both the oven (it can stand temperatures up to 425 degrees F) and microwave, as well as fridge and freezer. It is also dishwasher safe.

The lid is of lime green plastic with a clear window, and is BPA-free. It has a tab on one side to help you to open it with ease. Note that the lid should not go in the oven. Anchor Hocking Trueseal won an award from the Good Housekeeping Institute for the air tightness of the lid. Because of the air-tight fit of the lid, you should be able to store soups and other liquid foods in it without worrying about leaks.

The Kinetic Glasslock 64 Ounce Rectangular Glass Food Storage Container is made from tempered glass which is stain resistant, non toxic and inert, which means it does not react in any way with food you store and heat in it. It comes with a locking “glasslock” lid with a silicone seal that has tabs that snap into place (note you must line it up properly and press it down before snapping the locks in place). The locking mechanism is stronger than in most glass containers, and rarely breaks. The glass dish is safe in the microwave, fridge, freezer and dishwasher.

This container is large enough to take most large dinner leftovers (for example what remains of the Christmas dinner), and should ensure that you can safely store anything that you don’t eat straight away. You can also take the dish safely from the freezer to the microwave without delay. Note that this container does not go in the oven (you can’t bake in it, unlike the Anchor Hocking or Pyrex containers listed in the sidebar). However, you can store and freeze foodstuffs such as coffee in it. Kinetic Glasslock is a Korean brand.

You should be able to bake in the oven with these dishes, with the glass lids on if you are cooking casseroles, and then serve the food in the dish and store any excess food in the fridge or freezer by putting the plastic lids on, ready to be microwaved when you wish to reheat it. If you do a lot of oven cooking – for instance cooking casseroles, lasagna or roasting chicken, then this set is ideal for you. It saves on the washing up, as you bake, serve and store all in the same container. The plastic lids are BPA free and can go into the top rack of the dishwasher. The glass dishes and glass lids are made from non porous tempered glass and will not stain or absorb food smells and can also be cleaned in a dishwasher.

The Libbey 16-Ounce Handled Storage Containers with Plastic Lids set, consists of four glass bowls and four plastic lids with handles (eight pieces altogether). The bowls have a capacity of sixteen ounces and the transparent glass makes it easy to view the contents stored inside. The handles on the lids make it very easy to manoeuvre the containers. The bowls can go in the microwave, fridge and dishwasher (note that these containers do not go in the freezer). It is recommended that you hand wash the lids.

These bowls are great for storing leftovers that you will be eating within a day or two (so they can go in the fridge rather than the freezer). The handles make the containers easier to handle – but note that they take up space, which means you won’t be able to stack them in your fridge, and the handles also get in the way of using these as lunch boxes. If you want a more versatile storage container set, you might be better off with Pyrex, Anchor Hocking, Bormioli Rocco or Luminarc (see in the sidebar for details).
